Buildings and Contents Insurance

For Vendors –

On completion of the sale of your property in France the Notaire should give you an “attestation” which is written confirmation that you have sold your property. You will need to take or send this to your Buildings and Contents Insurance provider to enable them to cancel your policy and refund any monies due to you. It is a legal requirement to have your property in France insured so please do not cancel the insurance before completion.

For Purchasers –

It is a legal requirement to have your property in France insured and the Notaire will ask you for an “attestation” which is written confirmation that you have at least Buildings Insurance in place when you go to sign for completion. Normally you will find that premiums are cheaper than in the UK and there is third party liability built in. On a cautionary note there is no accidental damage cover in France so if you drop your new television or computer during the move the replacement cost will not be covered by your insurance. We have contacts with major insurance providers and would be happy to arrange your insurance cover for you in time for your completion (complete this form for a quotation).
